GOTY Runner Ups, Resist!, Knight Fall And Lands Of Galzyr

24. Februar 2023 um 08:00
It’s so great to be behind the microphone again talking about something you love! Especially when the thing you love is pancakes. But we also spend a good amount of time talking about what’s fresh in board games, including a sleeper solo hit Resist! from the people that brought you Undaunted, the little asymmetric arena battler Knight Fall and the somewhat sprawling choose your own adventure on a map game Lands of Galzyr. Today’s bonus feature is the three contenders for Efka’s game of the year title that didn’t quite make the cut. If you have personal experiences to share about any games discussed in this episode or any topic that's dear to your heart - we’d love to hear from you. #251: Game Design Trends

Von: Pickaxe
21. Februar 2023 um 12:00
You like SVWAG? Their early work was a little too negative for my taste. But when SHUX came out in '20, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole podcast has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the episodes a big boost. They've been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think SVWAG has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '23, SVWAG released this; episode 251, their most accomplished episode. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "gullet regurgitation". An observation so catchy, most people probably don't think about the meaning. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of consumption and the importance of digestion. It's also a personal statement about the podcast itself. Hey, Walker!

Garrett's Games 868: Village Rails and Lacrimosa

19. Februar 2023 um 14:00

Shelley and I once again get a small box and big box to the table this week, but both of these were pretty hefty brainpower-wise.

We start with by laying train track cards into a 3x4 grid to complete lines and score points from trip cards in

Village Rails by Matthew Dunstand and Brett J. Gilbert from Osprey Games

then we explore Mozart's life and final Requiem, helping to tell his story and finish his final piece in

Lacrimosa by Gerard Ascensi and Ferran Renalias from Devir

#264: Kellen

16. Februar 2023 um 09:01

We've done deep dives into games before, but really when you get down to it, games are just the medium. The substrate. What it's always been about is people. We hope to pick at the minds of some of the hobby's best with this format - and until then, we have Kellen. Before we unpack the man, the myth, the legend, we talk about Cuba Libre, Gang of Dice, and Time of Empires.
