I was donating blood while wearing my Transformers Converse shoes, and two different phlebotomists commented positively about them. "We have won the cultural argument," I said, deliberately burying the lede that demographic destiny is probably the chief cause. I suspect that the same forces explain increased societal acceptance of toys, and board games are not immune. Thank goodness!
Games Played Last Week:

Continuing on with our Oceania theme, Conor and Dana Banana are back and chatting to Aussie designer, Craig E. Somerton. Craig is still on a high after a successful Kickstarter with his first published game, Farm Hand. He talks about his journey in board gaming and designing, and in particular, his affinity for trick-taking games. He even hints at his new design!
As usual, when Conor and Banana get together, the episode is full of tangents that seem to go nowhere. Somewhere in between, is the occasional nod to a classic game in Five Tribes and Agricola while Craig gives us his no.1 trick-taker of all time.
As this episode was recorded in a post Cyclone Alfred time-warp, there is no Question of the Pod, but still lots of laughs and gaming conversation to enjoy!
Sizzling Games:
Seas of Strife [1:12:18]

Keep up to date about the Kickstarter for Farm Hand. Check in to see if late pledges may open up in the future!

Eryn is back to talk with me about the results of the first round voting. Half of our original 64 game cover art entries have now been knocked out of the contest. Now successive voting rounds keep halving the remaining contestants every three days. What have we seen so far? No ties, though a couple matchups were close. A few more were blowouts. Are there common threads? Surprises? Plus...Eryn teaches me how to look at art more critically...by SQUINTING. Achievement unlocked.
In this episode of the 5G4D News, Ben and Steve welcome some Knights of Doomsday, thank new patreon backers and talk abut the first ever 5G4D convention. Also, Ben talks to David Harding form Grail Games about his new title, Night Soil and Corey Thompson about buying a part of Gen Con.
If you're playing along with Mark Madness this year, the time for predictions is over and you'd better start voting. Whether you've done a prediction or not, the link below takes you to the place where you can choose your favorite game cover art as 64 titles square off against each other in one-on-one matchups.
A fell plague hath beset the Cabal, striking hard and laying low good Jesko and noble AC! Yet fear not, for steadfast Jamie, valiant Jess, and bold Bender do take up the mantle, helming Lords of the Dungeon in their absence. These last Lords standing embark upon three grand tales this day: the shifting tides and lengths of campaigns through the ages, the folly of players who craft their own hardships, and the perils and delights that come with joining a fellowship anew. Raise thy tankards, my friends - huzzah!
Clef and Tim talk lots of board games including Maria, Venture Angels, Mind Space, Rise and Fall, Wir Sind Das Volk, and Zenith. We also discuss if there is such a thing as a bad game.

This time, we are recording in person at Dice Tower West (with some new mics!). We talk specifics about our new-ish venue for DTW, and then get more general with a chat about our convention strategies and planning. The Tale of Boardgaming Horror is one for the ages, and we close the show with some Roses, Thorns, Hula Hoops, and Crossovers.
Happy Oceania month! This week, Adrian and Lauren are joined by Jay Bendixen, designer of Surfs up and fellow Aussie as we talk about his design philosophy and upcoming games. Jay also gives his tips and insights into pitching games to publishers and going from prototype to published for small or even first time designers. We also chat about some of his upcoming designs and he plants some seeds of sweet excitement for some games about succulents and bees.

As is readily apparent from the show's subject matter and our general presentation, we here at SVWAG are stone-cold jocks who excel at the sports and are thoroughly ripped. We trust the launcher and never ever skip leg day.
On this very special episode of On Board Games, Erik, Bruce, and Steve get together to give their lists of the top 10 games of all time. Come and listen and let us know what we should have had or why what we picked is not right. :)
