Good news, we're on holiday. Better news, we're not leaving you without podcast. It's a smaller episode, yes, but it is Talk Cardboard delivered right to your door, for free! Mmmmm, free podcast, what could be more delicious? Oh, I know, human suffering! If you feel like what you need more in your life is a cardboard simulation of robots slaughtering endless amounts of flesh bags on the moon, Moon Colony Bloodbath has got you sorted.
Not doing timestamps cause we're on holiday. Also, it's just one game. You'll be fine.

Mike is a 12 out of 10 this week as he hosts a radio show that doesn't exist.
This Game is Broken is a comedy board game panel show with Matthew Jude, Dave Luza, Paula Deming, Nick Murphy and Mike Murphy. We play a lot of nonsense games full of role playing and trivia as well as other fun stuff which can be found at the links below.
It is remarkable to reflect on how much hobbies can demand of us, and certainly board gaming is no different. Setting aside the administrative, economic, and social burdens; we then have to spend so much time teaching, setting up, and tearing down. Alas! 23-step processes for general set up prior to the 12-step individual player board set up. It was not always thus, but here we are.

This week's guest is scholar at the Max Planck Institute, Jacob Schmidt-Madsen. We talk about the occult, the discipline of board game acedemia and its place in the modern world...but which games did he choose?
Tim went to visit the Midwest for a weekend that involved disc golf, baseball, and a lot of food. This was the weekend of 18DSM, a convention dedicated to 18XX games and although we only played one 18xx game, I hope that changes in the future. We talk about our recent plays of Reef Encounter, 18USA, Combat Commander and Imperial Struggle.
Everything except Board Games in the beginning.
Board Game talk starts at 50:08.

Opener: Skara Brae, and again I'm talking about vacation-linked boardgames Closer: The Dornücopia we've got planned for EsCon in a couple weeks.
I'm always happy to talk about the Spiel des Jahres. The winners, the nominees, the recommended titles, the jury process, and the award's immense, positive impact on our hobby. That goes for the Kennerspiel and Kinderspiel, too...though I'm woefully ignorant about the children's category.
This time it's just me talking about the games, severall of which I've played, but some I've missed. I don't think my predictions for what will win are particularly interesting or insightful--I just like talking about the games and sharing what I think of them. For the SdJ, this year the nominees are Bomb Busters, Flip 7, and Krakel Orakel. (Plus the recommended titles are Agent Avenue, Castle Combo, Cities, Foxy, Perfect Words, and The Animals of Baker Street.)
In Becky's last episode within her run she takes board gaming to the beach, well on holiday at least as we chat about when the hobby meets travel. We chat through our tips, some of our favourite travel games and anything else in between.

Apparently the American custom of the "push present" can trace its roots to the Anglo-Indian tradition of the "baby bauble", although in the latter case jewellery is the more standard gift (instead of, say, boardgames). Can we acknowledge that baby bauble is a much less crude term? Let's try to be classy here, people. There is already enough about childbirth that is fraught.
